The Parental Education Program “Mellow Parenting” is launched in 5 districts of the country with EU support

Monday, October 31, 2016

The districts Cahul, Calarasi, Falesti, Nisporeni and Ungheni are launching the implementation of the Parental Education Program “Mellow Parenting” within a project funded by the European Union. The group of practitioners that will deliver the program will attend a training course offered by the UK-based organization “Mellow Parenting” on October 31 – November 4 this year. The practitioners will be licensed by the British organization after a specific period of program implementation.

The event is held within the EU-funded project “Improving access to community-based early years and preschool support services for vulnerable children with special needs in Moldova” implemented by the NGO “Partnerships For Every Child” /P4EC/.

The Mellow Parenting program aims at supporting parents in the development of their parental skills at various stages of child development and is underpinned by the principles of attachment, social learning and cognitive behavioral theory. The format for strengthening parental skills includes 14 group meetings with parents who have children aged 0-5. At the meetings, parents learn about the child’s development particularities, how to form healthy attachment with their children so as to contribute to the smooth development of the child and of the relationship between them. The activities imply the concomitant participation of parents and children.

The results of the Mellow Parenting program implemented in Scotland in 2013 and 2014 indicate a significant reduction of cases of depression and anxiety among parents, a rise of their self-confidence, a decrease of negative behavior among children, as well as a reduction of the number of quarrels caused by the challenging behavior.

The “Mellow Parenting” Program is one of the 4 programs and tools for working with children with special needs included in the “Improving access to community-based early years and preschool support services for vulnerable children with special needs in Moldova” Project implemented by P4EC, in collaboration with the consortium consisting of the Organizations Mellow Parenting and HealthProm from Great Britain, with support of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, Ministry of Education and local public authorities of the five districts included in the project. The project with the total value of EUR 680,000 is funded by the European Union.
