The mums - and dads-to-be will have the opportunity to attend the parental skill development programme “Mellow Parenting”

Tuesday, December 11, 2018

The mums- and dads-to-be will have the opportunity to attend a new antenatal parental skills development programme “Mellow Parenting”. To this end, the practitioners accredited in this programme from nine districts of Moldova attended a new training session on Monday, 10th December to be able to run this programme. So far, the Mellow Parenting practitioners have run sessions for mums and dads with children under 5. The training was conducted by the founder of the programme, Mrs. Christine Puckering, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The antenatal programme aims to reduce the stress during pregnancy, help the parents understand that babies are prepared for interaction from birth and understand the importance of early interaction for brain development. The programme engages parents during the pregnancy who face or faced social and psychological issues: social isolation, adverse childhood experiences, domestic violence, low level of respect, etc. Researches show that ante-natal depression and anxiety have a long-term impact on children's behaviour and learning even before the age of 5.

The “Mellow Parenting” programme has been piloted in the Republic of Moldova since 2016 in the Cahul, Calarasi, Falesti, Nisporeni, Ungheni, Soroca, Singerei, Orhei districts and Chisinau. The programme has already covered over 280 parents who have been supported to strengthen their parental skills and relationships with their children, based on the attachment theory.

This training has been carried out by the NGO “Partnerships for every child” in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection within a project aimed at developing “Mellow Parenting” funded by World Childhood Foundation. The Programme is delivered in the Cahul, Calarasi, Falesti, Nisporeni and Ungheni districts with the financial support of the European Union within the “Improving access to community-based early years and pre-school support services for vulnerable children with special needs in Moldova” project.
