Educational and special support services for children with hearing disabilities and their families

Strategic vision of the development of a service of educational and special support services for children with hearing disabilities and their families in the Republic of Moldova was presented on 24th October at a workshop. The document was developed by international experts from Romania, at the request of the Ministry of Education, with the support of Partnerships for Every Child /P4EC/.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family, Ministry of Health, residential institutions for children with hearing disabilities participated at the event.

The goal of the Vision is to specify all necessary educational and special support services for children with hearing disabilities that will ensure the access of Moldovan children to this service. The vision also specifies the real need of each type of services, needs and solutions of capacity building of the staff working with these children, and proposals of feasible solutions to the Ministry of Education, related to the reconfiguration/modernization of the educational service, to meet the needs of children with impaired hearing.

Representatives of local and central public authorities, civil society, direct service providers, children with hearing disabilities and their parents, etc, were consulted for the development of the Vision.

The presentation of the Vision was followed by a work group meeting, held on 25th October, to develop the Vision’s implementation actions.

The vision was produced within the USAID-funded project “Children in Moldova are cared for in safe and secure families”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Social Protection and Family, Ministry of Education, and LPAs of 11 regions of the country.
