Ensuring social inclusion of children

Although inclusive education is prominently featured in the national Education Strategy of Moldova, educational systems continues to fail to meet the needs of all children in the country. Many children continue to be excluded from mainstream education due to poverty, ethnicity, disability, gender and other factors. We support central and local government, civil society and other stakeholders’ efforts to bring about greater social inclusion of marginalized children and their families, ensuring those who are excluded due to different reasons are able to exercise their rights.

We have supported the national government to devise national policies to facilitate inclusive education across the country; we have provided technical support to pilot inclusive education in all mainstream schools in 3 regions, developing methodologies, services and innovative approaches to integrate children from institutional care and children with disabilities into mainstream education. We have supported local communities to mobilise resources to strengthen community schools as a hub for support offered to children and their parents.
